When people look at my pictures, I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.
– Robert FrankAbout Keith
Keith Dotson is a world-renowned artist who specializes in black-and-white photography. His favorite subjects to shoot include landscapes, cityscapes, and abstractions from nature. He is especially drawn to places with intrinsic mystique: historic places, old houses, and the soft light of gloomy days. For Keith, photography is an attempt to capture the essence of this same spirit of the land. The quote above (courtesy of the legendary photographer, Robert Frank) cogently describes the passion Keith brings to each and every shot.
Originally from Texas, Keith now resides in Nashville, Tennessee; home to endless live music, great southern cooking, and nature’s beauty in all four seasons. Although Nashville is now home, Keith (and his camera) can be found bouncing around the globe at any moment. His travels also frequently bring him to the Badger State to visit his son in Madison.
In addition to being marveled in private collections across the globe—from Los Angeles to Charleston and Dubai to Canberra—Keith’s photographs can be found on the walls of major hotels, financial services firms, tech companies, universities, and fine restaurants around the country. Given Keith’s Wisconsin connection, it was only fitting to add a Milwaukee-based law firm to this list: Barton Cerjak.
Keith’s work has also been recently featured in two major motion pictures: a 2016 film entitled Why Him? and the 2018 film, Peppermint, starring Jennifer Garner. You may have also noticed Keith’s work in various television series, including Grey’s Anatomy, Melissa and Joey, Modern Family, Gossip Girl, The Mindy Project, and Lady Dynamite.
As one of Keith’s other favorite quotes says: “The Earth is Art, The Photographer is only a Witness.” Even a passing glance of Keith’s work reveals that his photographs do precisely that: capture the natural beauty of the world in which we live. The Barton Cerjak team highly encourages you to visit Keith’s website and see the stunning imagery he has created.
